Workstream digital studio set up and operation

Workstream Digital Studio is a production and sales program provided by Kessler Color at no cost. It is designed to prepare digital camera files for printing and compositing in batches without the need to deal with each image in Photoshop. Included on the CD is a version of Workstream DS and a file named “DSSetupfor_KesslerColor.exe”. Both files will be needed to complete the setup.
(DSSetupfor_KesslerColor.exe” file can be downloaded here.) The DSSetup (Kessler) file includes all the print sizes and proprietary templates we supply for the convenience of our clients. Workstream is continually being upgraded, so to get the latest version, you may visit www.zbe.com and download directly from their website. Once the main Workstream DS Setup file has been saved to your hard drive, you may double click on it to start the install process. You will be prompted to find the Kessler Color DSSetup. After the program has been successfully installed, restart the program, click on the View Menu, and DS View. You should see the following screen:

To open new images to work on, click on the “Browse” button and find the folder on your hard drive containing the images. Workstream loads a huge number of images quickly. You may change the size of the screen images by moving the arrow at the middle/bottom of the screen. After you become used to the features of Workstream, you’ll find it is a very fast, easy to understand program. If, for instance, you wish to order a 4x6 print of each image displayed, simply click on the first image, hold down the shift key and click on the last image (to select all), and then double click on the 4x6 icon inside the Products window. Almost instantaneously all images will have “4x6” placed under them.

If you wish to crop any image in Workstream, double click on the individual image, which will cause it to be resized to the full screen mode. Then, double click once more on the image, and it will appear with the proposed cropping highlighted. To crop closer, grab a side or corner of the marquee and drag in. The aspect ratio will remain constant with the print size ordered. You may also change the horizontal or vertical positioning of the marquee. Once you are satisfied, double click again to go back to the regular view, or click on the “Next Image” icon.

You may also add optional windows to the DS View. Under the View menu, you may choose to add the Color Corrections box. To use these corrections, click once on an image and then use the corrections to add color, contrast or sharpening. You will see your changes previewed on the image.

Note that there are several tabs located under the products window. These contain all the various print sizes and special templates that Kessler Color offers. Click on the “Templates” tab to view preview images of our wedding and special event templates. To use templates, first bring in the customer images you’ll use to fill the templates. Next, double click on a template you intend to use. After it appears in the image window, drag one file at a time into the appropriate opening. Regardless of resolution, it will resize immediately. You may then double click on any included image in the template and crop or change the color balance as discussed above. Remember to save your work as you progress through the order. Workstream will ask for a customer name and number for each new order. You may (and should) save frequently within an order. When you have completed an order, you may “Export” it to your hard drive and write a CD to submit to Kessler Color, or you may FTP the order directly to our site through Workstream. Whether we receive a CD or FTP upload, your order will come into Workstream with your print sizes, color corrections, sharpening, and cropping intact. Be certain to record your order print size totals so we may double check as we are printing the order.
