Open the files (Cntrl O) - hold the control key to select multiple files or shift key to select an entire group of files. CROP each file to constrained aspect ratio (8x10 or 5x7). You may use the cropping tool (preferred) or the marquee tool. If you use the cropping tool, set the aspect ratio @ 300ppi. If you intend to have us packagize the file, it is generally best to make an 8x10 formated image. Be sure to leave enough space around the subjects to allow cropping to 5x7 format, or die cutting wallet prints. IMAGE SIZE -Set the image size to the appropriate size at 300ppi. Try to allow a minimal amount of resampling (interpolation). PERFORM IMAGE CORRECTIONS to color and contrast. If you feel the contrast is correct, use levels (Cntrl L) to correct color; if not select curves (Cntrl M) to correct contrast and density first, and then each color layer. Curves is the single best method of correction. When correcting multiple files from the same session, most files will probably require the same correction. To set curves to load your last correction, touch control-alt-m. RETOUCH OR IMAGE ENHANCEMENT -Use the cloning & healing brush tools primarily, as the airbrush and paint tools do not add a believable texture to skin. SELECTION -If you must select an area to pull out of a file, the pen tool is much more precise than the magnetic lasso or extract command. Both of these can allow color fringing during the selection process. ADD any type required at this point. FLATTEN the image to remove any layers. Type must be flattened before sending a file to Kessler Color. SHARPEN the image if needed. Use unsharp mask with general settings of Amount=60-100%; Radius=1.5; Threshold=5 for an 8x10 at 300ppi. Be careful not to oversharpen! ROTATE the image to portrait orientation. SAVE the file as an RGB TIFF with no compression, or as a .JPG file with compression quality of 10 or better. FILL OUT an order form for each file, making specific notes about anything you’d like us to change. After completion, WRITE A CD for each order. You may also send the files to our Internet Upload Center at this point. Be sure to follow the instructions for making a folder and include a notepad document with printing instructions. |
